Entry 5

My team has been grinding like an unstoppable force this past week. Moreover, we successfully checked quite a few things off our list. As project manager, I am proud of all of their work thus far. Their commitment continues to inspire me to work night and day to develop TANDEM. We have made collective steps forward on all fronts. Along with the progress, our ability to communicate as a team seems to also be developing into something much clearer.

I’ve spent the better part of my week digging into OpenCV. The library definitely has the functionality we need for TANDEM. The elements we were looking to extract from FeatureExtractor turned out to be nothing more than queries from OpenCV. Scarier than that, in a meeting with Lev this past week, we learned that FeatureExtractor was “written in a day” and him and his team still have issues recompiling it. That said, we have the initial workings of our OCR, NLTK, and OpenCV scripts as well as our server host up and running.

Tim at Reclaim helped me map the www.dhtandem.com domain name and admin@dhtandem.com email address. Our @dhtandem Twitter handle is also live and helping us to keep a consistent identity.

Defining an MVP was another valuable exercise we had already had completed in our back pocket. Having been assigned it after we had already given some thought gave us the opportunity to revisit it at our new level of functionality and understanding. Our minimum is more realistic now.
